Dr.José Nieto Enriquez graduated in medicine at the University of Barcelona (Hospital Clínic) , and subsequently agreed to a MIR space ophthalmology resident at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, the largest university hospital in Catalonia. During the residency he passed the rigorous exams equivalent to the American MIR exam (USMLE), obtaining the certification of the Educational Comission for Foreign Medical Graduates to practice medicine in the United States. Already as a resident in ophthalmology at Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Dr. Netoto showed special interest in oculoplastic surgery, Performing several stays as a medical observer at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital in London.
After completing his training as a resident, Dr. Nieto agreed to a subspecialization (fellowship) in oculoplastic surgery at the University of Michigan in the United States , becoming the first Spanish ophthalmologist to join an official fellowship of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
Dr. José Nieto has presented numerous scientific papers in national and international conferences on their specialty and is author of several articles in medical journals. He is a member of the European Society of Oculoplastic Surgery (ESOPRS) and one of the few European members of the American Society of Oculoplastic Surgery (ASOPRS).
